1954, Alfa Romeo Giulietta, a car with perfect aesthetics.

Founded in 1910, Anonima Lombardi Fabbrica Automobili specialized in racing cars. The Giulietta model was created to boost sales to the general public.

Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili

In 1910, Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili founded Alfa Romeo, specializing in the manufacture of large racing and luxury cars. Businessman Nicola Romeo took over the company in 1915. He sold it entirely in 1928. After his departure, models like the 8C and 6C dominated racetracks across Europe.

Despite the brand’s popularity with celebrities such as King Farouk of Egypt, Prince Rainier of Monaco, and star Rita Hayworth, the company needed mainstream sales for its financial viability. To boost sales, management decided to launch a new car.

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta and Giulia are automobiles with fine engineering and a purely Italian, classic style. The Giulietta is a mid-range car with an attractive price. It is built around a 1.3-liter engine, later revised to a 1.6-liter, with an aluminum block, cylinder head, and crankcase featuring double overhead camshafts. The Giulietta sedan and Sprint Coupé series was produced from 1954 to 1962. It was replaced by the very modern and boxy Alfa Romeo Giulia.

Success in America

This 4-cylinder car, with its purely Italian design and glamour, captivated everyone it passed. 164,000 units were sold. Despite some minor issues with the door trim and the lack of a sun visor, it won the hearts of Americans thanks to its aesthetics and sporty spirit. A symbol of its era, the Giulietta was produced until 1965.
